Gears of War: E-Day

Gears of War: E-Day beginner tips

Quick answer

Start with Boot Camp, then try weapons in Combat Training. Use cover to read the fight and recover, move when heavy enemies rush you, and match your weapon to the distance.

Start with the training modes

Complete Boot Camp to learn the new controls. Follow it with Combat Training so you can try weapons before relying on them in a campaign fight. If movement feels awkward, work through the controller setup guide and test each change here.

Do not rush past the early melee teaching. It gives you practice before you start relying on the chainsaw Lancer later on.

Use cover without getting trapped

Read enemy positions from cover and move through a chain of nearby cover points. When an enemy is close or your health is low, blind fire can help create room to recover.

Cover is a tool, not a reason to stay in one place. Heavy enemies that charge force you to move and spread out. Be ready to leave a position when it stops protecting you.

Choose a weapon for the distance

Fight A useful starting choice
Close to medium range Lancer for sustained, general-purpose fire
Very close range Gnasher for burst damage
Distant priority target Longshot for a precise shot

These are roles, not a universal damage ranking. See weapon choices for the conditions behind each recommendation.

Check the side paths

Secondary objectives can reward weapon upgrades. Listen for the collectible audio cue and search the nearby area when you hear it. This is an opening routine, rather than a promise of every collectible or a no-damage route.
